Rea Carey

Rea Carey’s desire to work with the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community is rooted in her experiences coming out at the age of 16 just as the HIV/AIDS epidemic was taking hold as well as her parents’ social justice and political activism. As Executive Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Foundation, she works to advance fairness and justice for LGBT people and their families. Through her organization, she builds the capacity of the LGBT movement by training activists and organizing broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation. Additionally, the Task Force provides research and policy analysis to support the struggle for complete equality and to counter opposing views. Keenly aware of the role LGBT rights plays in a broader social justice movement, Rea contributes to creating a nation that respects the diversity of human expression and identity.
